Traditional Religion in Peki

This examines pre- missionary religious ideas and practices. Pekis in all clarity distinguished between the spirits of ancestors *togbewo* , the clan gods *togbe zikpuiwo* represented by the *fias'* stool which was the ideological base of power and the gods.
 

 
The inhabiting natural environment such as rivers, hills and springs were worship as *trowo*.
 

 
Traditional religion as Practiced in Peki believed in a great God located in heaven *dzingbe me* called *Mawu*
 

 
Togbewo were served by offering libation at the beginning of all official gatherings. This usually is the task of *hlorme metsitsie* who formed the link between the living and the dead.
 

 
The stool was worshipped the *fia* who thus combined political and religious offices.
 
Each *tro* was served by a male priest *tronua* and the *tro* would also possess one or more priestess *trosiwo* through whom the tro speaks.
 

 
Both *togbezikpuiwo and *trowo* required certain days to be put as days of worship. During such days , people could make sacrifices and ask the gods to provide health , wealth , fertility or any other life prolonging things.
 

 
Next to these deities , the Pekis believed the existence of dwarfs or little people *adziakpewo* who lived in the forest. It was believed they greatly help in finding game , herbs for medicinal purposes. It was also believed dwarfs out mischief could mislead people into the forest. The *adziakpewo* were also served by priests.
 

 
All the mentioned spiritual beings were worshipped regularly by social groups on varying scales. *Trowo* was expected to behave positively towards people and as long as their rituals are petformed properly.
