Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

About the book

The author investigates the origins of many eating traditions and the fictions involved with creating them. Traveling the darkest corners of our the dining habits, the author raises the unspoken question behind every fish we eat, every chicken we fry, and every burger we grill.

Part of this book is a memoir and part is also an investigative report.

What I love about it

He includes different perspectives and arguments (which is great!) but ultimately exposes an underground network which is shocking.

I loved how the author touched on the connection between animal agriculture and the existence of influenza illnesses in humans.

Quotes to remember

While it is always possible to wake a person who's sleeping, no amount of noise will wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.”

“Not responding is a response - we are equally responsible for what we don't do.”
